The Mature MouseTM had the opportunity to experience the daily Flag Retreat at the Magic Kingdom during my April solo trip. People gather in Town Square on Main Street each evening at 5 to honor the Spirit of America, and express gratitude to American veterans.
Children begin the ceremony by leading guests in the Pledge of Allegiance, which is accompanied by a trumpet fanfare. The philharmonic band plays the “Star Spangled Banner” as the Color Guard ceremoniously lowers, removes, and folds the flag. The folded flag is handed to a guest veteran, who participates in a processional down Main Street, as the band plays a medley of military songs.
While waiting for Flag Retreat to begin, I had the pleasure of talking with Disney cast member, Veronica. She, along with numerous other cast members, had the thankless job of keeping guests out of the center of Town Square prior to, and during, the Flag Retreat. Veronica took the time to explain the pending ceremony to me. It was obvious that she really enjoys her job as a Walt Disney World cast member. Veronica was one of a few extraordinary cast members I met during my recent trip. My post from last May, A Disney World Vacation is the best, I discussed Disney Questions top 10 list of things to be thankful for at Disney World. Cast members, like Veronica, are definitely something to be appreciated while at WDW.
